The Power of 'Moo-Gox'

As a young child, I could not say the word 'music' - instead, I said 'moogox'. Hey, I was close! I was reflecting on music the other day, and the power it has over many that listen to it. Adam took me to the Dakota (run there if you have never been!) and we saw The Radiators after a wonderful meal of meat and potatoes. This group has been together since the 80's and is considered one of the oldest touring bands of New Orleans. All of their music is pre-WWII and is, in my opinion, awesome. Seeing this show live from our perch, I was able to pair two of my faves for 90 minutes: music and people watching. As I peered at my cohorts in this jazz club I began to think about the amazing power the music had over every one of us and, to some extent, how each person heard the music differently according to their tastes in tunes. I marveled at how the music gripped a group of middle aged adults in such a way that they stood stage right and, in front of the entire club, writhed around to the beat as if no one was watching. I'm not talking "So You Think You Can Dance" dancing here...I'm talking hideous dancing!  (This also made me reflect on how as we age, we become more and more self-conscious.)  The rest of us who could not overcome our modesty in order to  revert to our toddler years in which we dance with reckless abandon could be seen tapping our toes, playing air guitar with one hand while holding our lovers hand with the other, or nodding to the beat. As the music moved the crowd it made a real impression on me. I thought about a lot of the important times in my life and how many of my memories have songs, or entire albums attached to them. Do yours? Powerful stuff!

Moral of the story: I hope your soundtrack is as good as mine has been for the last 28 years and may the moogox not only bring happy memories to the front burner, but help you make new ones in the days to come.
